| Sumario: | This article examines the effects of open versus specific-challenging goal-setting on physical fitness task performance and psychological outcomes in children aged 4 to 11 years. The study involved 122 participants completing shuttle run and jumping tasks under three goal conditions (open, specific, control), with performance and measures of affect, confidence, and enjoyment assessed. Results indicated that both open and specific-challenging goals improved shuttle run performance, with weaker evidence for jumping tasks, and that the effectiveness of open goals decreased with age. These findings suggest that open goals may be as beneficial as specific goals for younger children but may require adjustment for older children in physical activity interventions. |
