Since its formal establishment linked to the 1977 higher education reform, nursing research has evolved from a marginal practice-based activity into a recognized academic discipline grounded in theory, methodology, and evidence-based practice. Today, Swedish nursing research addresses diverse areas such as person-centred care, chronic illness, and healthcare professional working conditions, while emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and public, patient, and professional involvement (PPPI). Despite progress, challenges remain, including resource constraints, career pathway uncertainties, and the need to bridge the gap between research and clinical implementation.
