| Sumario: | This research examines the electoral consequences of media coverage of legislators in relation to feminine policy issues like the environment, social welfare, education, and minority rights. For this goal, the paper utilizes 16,831 hand-coded newspaper articles published between 2005 and 2020 that depict elected legislators in Taiwan's Legislative Yuan. The results demonstrate that the more the media portrays a legislator in connection to feminine policy issues, the lower the legislator's re-election chances become. Going further, leveraging Taiwan's mixed electoral system, the paper finds that the media's negative impact was considerably mitigated for party list legislators compared to district legislators. Findings in this paper shed light on a hitherto understudied aspect of the relationship between legislators, feminine policy issues depicted in the media, and electoral prospects.
