For this goal, the paper utilizes 16,831 hand-coded newspaper articles published between 2005 and 2020 that depict elected legislators in Taiwan's Legislative Yuan. The results demonstrate that the more the media portrays a legislator in connection to feminine policy issues, the lower the legislator's re-election chances become. Going further, leveraging Taiwan's mixed electoral system, the paper finds that the media's negative impact was considerably mitigated for party list legislators compared to district legislators.
