| Sumario: | This article offers a commentary on significant issues about the education of teachers which were discussed in the latest of book of James Bryant Conant entitled "The Education of American Teachers." The author raised four issues in Conant's recommendations. First, each college should be allowed to develop whatever program of teacher education it considers most appropriate. Second, Conant suggested that methods of evaluating teacher competence should be developed first by determining the outcomes of teacher education programs. Third, an integration of the pertinent insights of competing blocs at the point of curricular decision making is needed in the control of teacher education. Finally, Conant emphasized the role of small colleges in teacher education.
