| Sumario: | This article focuses on individual treatment of extreme negativism and autistic behavior in a six-year-old boy, a part of a program designed by the Institute for Juvenile Research in Chicago, Illinois as an alternative to residential care for severely disturbed children. Exploratory session was held to obtain direct impressions of the subject's behavior. The treatment objective was to reduce negativism in response to demands and get the boy to start talking correctly. The specific procedures used with the boy in the individual sessions were based on his negative behaviors. Thus, the authors suggest that remedial education programs for parents and child should be considered as an alternative to residential treatment for severe behavior problems.
