While Cervantes provides readers with criteria to assess a text's worth regardless of format, Zayas uses metaphor and irony to challenge the assumption that print confers value on the text and authority to the author. Drawing from book history, philology, and close reading, I highlight their contrasting strategies: Cervantes points readers to narrative reliability and authorial intent, while Zayas critiques the publishing process itself and urges readers to question appearances. Both authors ultimately emphasize critical reader engagement over format-based valuation. Ambos autores, en última instancia, enfatizan la participación crítica del lector por encima de la valoración basada en el formato. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: Y custom: Copyright of Cervantes is the property of University of Toronto Press and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites without the copyright holder's express written permission.
