| Sumario: | Although Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most prevalent personality disorders in the United States, the lived experiences of children raised by a parent with BPD are under-researched. The primary focus in clinical and therapeutic settings is on the individual with BPD. However, due to various professional limitations, interventions that consider the family of this individual are limited, leaving this population of children largely invisible. This study aims to capture themes about the social and academic experiences of this population to inform interventions in educational and mental health settings. Five participants ages 18 and older with a parent with BPD were recruited through an online support group, and interviews were held over Zoom. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts was conducted in Quirkos, utilizing a six-step thematic analysis protocol. Various social and academic themes were identified. Findings indicate that unpredictable behavior from a parent with BPD negatively impacts their child's social experiences, while impacts on academic experiences were mixed. These findings have clinical and educational intervention implications for children of a parent with BPD. Areas for future research include the impacts of parental BPD behavior on their children's relationships in adulthood.
