| Sumario: | This article examines the role of multilingual interaction in the field of communication and translation studies, with a particular focus on the education and professional development of translators and interpreters. Drawing on the study programs offered by the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Politehnica University Timișoara, the paper emphasizes methodological foundations, pedagogical approaches, practical components, and teaching methods. It also aims to present the research areas and academic projects carried out over more than three decades of activity. Particular attention is paid to the knowledge, competences, and skills required of future translators and interpreters, as well as to their professional development and social responsibilities in an increasingly globalized world profoundly influenced by the development of artificial intelligence. In this context, the paper also addresses the impact of new technologies and artificial intelligence-based tools on the translation and interpreting professions, highlighting the need to adapt professional competences to the new realities of the field. Finally, the paper highlights the contribution of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at UPT to educating professionals equipped with linguistic, intercultural, and digital competences, capable of meeting the demands of contemporary multilingual communication and the current requirements of the labour market.
