| Sumario: | This article examines some of the pragmatic characteristics of contemporary Romanian diplomatic discourse, as delivered by Romanian ambassadors abroad, the president of Romania, and minister of foreign affairs. While this type of discourse falls within the broader category of political discourse sub-genres, alongside inaugural and deliberative discourse (POPA, 2023, p. 82-83), we also propose a new classification within diplomatic discourse, distinguishing between proper diplomatic discourse (delivered in traditional, classic diplomatic settings) and public diplomatic discourse (presented in contexts such as interviews, press conferences, etc.). The study focuses primarily on how the extralinguistic context of utterance influences and is reflected in the discourse under analysis, concentrating on a single pragmatic concept: deixis.
