Sumario:The dissemination of sinographic calligraphy in Vietnam spans over two millennia and constitutes a central component of the country's Hán–Nôm cultural heritage. Its transmission was driven by both elite endorsement and popular participation. In particular, the institutionalization of the Calligraphy and Arithmetic Examination (书 算科) functioned as a primary mechanism for the professionalization of calligraphic practice, fostering a class of administrative specialists proficient in script production. The diffusion process produced significant cultural and formal transformations. Vietnamese practitioners not only adapted inherited sinographic forms into localized variants—including Southern character (南字) and regionally distinctive stylistic features—but also extended sinographic aesthetic principles into the domain of Quốc Ngữ calligraphy. These research outcomes contribute to a more nuanced comparative understanding of the transmission of sinographic calligraphy throughout East Asia.
