Sumario:The article reflects on the authors views about Spanish popular music. In this essay the author only focuses on Las niñas. It intends to question the cultural imperialism thesis as an oversimplified paradigm that fails to encompass the complex cultural and political implications entangled in the various sites of production and reception of popular music. Lyrics of the controversial OjÚ by Las niñas and an opening track of the album "Niñas de barrio" are presented.
