| Sumario: | The article provides information on the development of educational programs for the mentally handicapped from primary to secondary schools in a small community in Jacksonville, Illinois. Jacksonville has been a pioneer in special education, the teachers of the mentally handicapped have been working together to build an integrated developmental program. The children are divided into primary, intermediate, junior high, and high school, their curriculum is based on their experience areas, physical and mental health, homebuilding, social relations, and occupational education. The paragon is to develop a program which provides for the sequential building of the concepts, skills, and attitudes that are essential for social adequacy and economic competence.
