Previous historical examination of nineteenth century Spanish America focuses on class antagonisms between landowners and the newly emerging bourgeoisie, with many interpretations describing a landowning aristocracy that dominates the country's citizens. The article examines the social aspects of elite political commitments in Colombia as the country's two traditional parties took form. |
