Rob Enderle, principal analyst with the market research firm Enderle Group, explains the need to provide higher performance and more realistic effects in computer gaming. The development of a stand-alone physics processing unit (PPU) by Ageia and the new physics engines used by ATI and Nvidia on their chips are discussed.
