Sumario:The article provides a general overview of self-regulation and the Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) model of instruction, followed by observations of the authors' experience when using SRSD to teach summary writing to a sixth-grade struggling writer. Difficulty in self-regulating the writing process can result from several factors such as less proficient writers frequently overestimate their writing abilities and struggling writers are less aware than more proficient writers of the need for high levels of self-regulation.
