| Sumario: | The purpose of this study was to assess rape attitudes and empathy levels of a sample of college students (N=387), using the Attitudes Toward Rape questionnaire and the Rape Empathy Scale. Dependent variables were attitudes toward rape and empathy for rape survivors and independent variables were prior knowledge or experience as a rape survivor, having female siblings, gender, marital status, and age. Analysis of variance found both prior experience as a rape survivor (p<.05), and gender (p<.05) to be significantly related to rape intolerant attitudes and empathy toward rape survivors. Rape intolerant attitudes and lower level of empathy were more commonly found among men and those with no personal experience with rape.
