Sumario:	The article discusses how phonemic awareness can assist English-language learners (ELLs) in developing reading skills in English. Phonemic awareness involves the manipulation of phonemes, the sounds that form speech, into specific words and improves reading acquisition. The authors suggest that phonemic awareness can transfer between different languages and should be included in an ELL curriculum if the students' native language is the language of instruction.
