Sumario:The article examines the yuefu compositions entitled "Xiangyang ta tongti ge," by Xiao Yan, the founding emperor of the Liang dynasty in China. The analysis is aimed at providing an understanding of Liang Wudi's creation of court music and the sound of the perished state, which is a derogatory epithet used to explain the failure of the Liang dynasty and the art and literature of the late Southern Dynasties. Despite the numerous studies on Xiao Yun as a political figure few were known to be done on his poetry. The emperor initiated projects for the restoration of rituals and court music upon his ascension to the throne.
