Summary:	This article analyzes Guillermo Cotto Thorner's Caribbean migration novel, Trópico en Manhattan (Manhattan Tropics, 1975), specifically, the use of Puerto Rican gastronomy as an investigative mechanism for identity negotiation in the process of United States immigration. Gastronomy transcends geografic, linguistic, political, and social limits to become a symbol that unites Puerto Ricans living outside the island. At the same time, it turns into an instrument of cultural heritage for future generations.
