| Sumario: | Telecommuting, or working at home while sharing information with the office through a computer terminal, is becoming more popular as employers realize the benefits to be gained by substituting telecommunications for transportation. Telecommuters are generally 20 percent more productive, and the positions attract skilled job candidates. Businesses also benefit from the greater staffing flexibility and cost control and from reduced office space requirements. Employees benefit from fewer interruptions, a greater sense of control, a more flexible schedule, improved communications at work and at home, and savings on food, clothes, and transportation.
