| Summary: | The business services industry is growing faster than any other industry in the economy. Its rate of job growth over the past decade is more than four times that for all private nonagricultural industries. The seven major segments of the business services industry vary in the nature of the services they offer, the skill level of their employees, and in whether they provide year-round or temporary help. For businesses, such contractors offer flexibility and sometimes lower costs. The most rapidly growing segments in business services are personnel supply services, which include temporary-help supply services and employment agencies, and computer and data processing services. Other major segments are mailing, reproduction, and stenographic services; services to buildings; advertising; miscellaneous business services; and consumer credit reporting and collection. The industry's employment growth, weekly earnings, and tenure and hours are analyzed.
