| Sumario: | The writer reviews the DOS versions of five statistical software packages for epidemiology and clinical trials. The packages considered are EPI INFO, version 6.04 b; EPICURE, version 2.0; EPILOG PLUS, version 3.07; STATA, version 5.0; and TRUE EPISTAT, version 5.3 a. Although the packages differ in their target audiences, interfaces, capabilities, and approaches, they are analyzed according to criteria that are of most interest to epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and others involved in epidemiologic and clinical research. The packages are compared with regard to installation and hardware requirements, interface, documentation, database management, statistical graphics, statistical analysis, and accuracy of statistical procedures.
