| Summary: | Two studies were conducted on the evolution and evaluation of a computerized aid to screen for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) classifications with the use of Child Behavior Checklist/Youth Self Report/Teacher Report Form (CBCL/YSR/TRF) input data. The first study explored the screening capacity of the computerized aid by administering the Achenbach extended questionnaires CBCL and YSR in a clinical sample and by undertaking a DSM-III-R based interview. Computer generated and checklist based classifications were then compared to a criterion diagnosis based on the structured interview. At least five extraneous factors that seem to restrict the screening capacity of the computerized aid were noted. Corrective steps were taken to adjust for the influence of some of these additional factors, and the program was then ported to Windows and the content adapted to DSM IV. The second study examined the usefulness of the program for clinical psycho-diagnostic practice in eight clinical settings. The program provided a supportive function during the diagnostic procedure. |
