| Sumario: | Part of a special issue on research capacity and infrastructure development in schools of social work. As long as social work accreditation has been in place, research at an undergraduate level has been on offer. The development of knowledge through research is a key function of social work and must be seen as part of the social work foundation curriculum. Giving undergraduates the opportunity to contribute to social work knowledge may also help to add new bodies to the ranks of an aging profession. The current state of undergraduate research, issues in undergraduate research, models and strategies for strengthening undergraduate research, and the benefits of undergraduate research for students and faculty and the social work profession are all explored.
