| Sumario: | The potential for using the Internet to teach criminology courses and provide in-service training to criminal justice professionals is immense. Distance learning is becoming dependent on computer-aided and Internet-aided instruction, and there is also a shift away from linear instruction to a more student-focused learning, exemplified by the use of hypertext on the Web. There are a number of obstacles that must be overcome before Web-based learning will be widely accepted as equal to or superior to face-to-face classroom instruction. What students need to know about distance education, how various computer technologies have been applied to create learning environments, courseware products for helping students, and video-conferencing options as teaching tools are discussed.
