| Sumario: | A study was conducted to determine the devotion of Macintosh computer enthusiasts as a case of implicit religion. Data were drawn from a number of sources: 12 detailed interviews; letters to the editor from MacAddict magazine; and pro-Macintosh websites and magazines. Macintosh adoration was analyzed in four ways: the search for meaning; social forms; the concealed message of the metaphor; and the case of the voyage. Findings revealed Macintosh devotion as an implicit religion that is based on a sacrosanct bond between computers and humans and a vision of a future in which technology and people work together in harmony. |
