| Sumario: | An open letter to the organizers, presenters, and attendees of the First National Conference for Campus Based Men's Gender Equality and Anti-Violence Groups, which took place in St. John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, November 2009. The writer expresses his disappointment and frustration at the hostile reception both he and other attendees received while speaking at the conference. He explains that he hoped to find some agreement with the conference organizers on the notion that while the current hegemonic version of masculinity intentionally confuses the terms “male” and “masculine,” violent masculinity can be performed by male or female bodied people. Instead, he concludes, he and his colleagues alike encountered a number of organizers and presenters at the conference that were often hostile to such concepts of masculinity.
