The writer expresses his disappointment and frustration at the hostile reception both he and other attendees received while speaking at the conference. He explains that he hoped to find some agreement with the conference organizers on the notion that while the current hegemonic version of masculinity intentionally confuses the terms “male” and “masculine,” violent masculinity can be performed by male or female bodied people.
