Summary:The era of computerized trading has dawned at the Jakarta Stock Exchange, and the welcome result should be trading efficiency. The exchange has moved to a new building in Jakarta's central business district, where traders utilize a Windows-based program to access the new Jakarta Automated Trading System. Real-time remote trading will hopefully stimulate the local demand for equities and spur demand for the 40 percent of local shares seen as illiquid. Of most immediate importance is the improved efficiency in dealing with the increasing number of transactions. Other advantages of the new system are outlined.
