| Sumario: | On July 23, 1998, Microsoft Corp. found itself once again facing congressional scrutiny amid new allegations that it has engaged in practices designed to drive out its competitors. At the second hearing this year on Microsoft's business practices, the Senate Judiciary Committee continued its investigation into allegations that the software maker has used monopoly power over computer operating systems to leverage control in other markets. Microsoft declined the request of committee chairman Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, to testify at the July 23 hearing, with Mark Murray, Microsoft's spokesman, stating that the firm has “gone the extra mile” to provide the committee with the information it has requested. Hatch is of the opinion that the Justice Department should broaden its probe of Microsoft, based on new allegations that were revealed at the hearing.
