| Sumario: | A response to J. Tittenbrun's commentary in this issue on the writer's “Elite Perceptions of Workers, Conflict and Socialism: The Case of Poland, 1956-1989,” which appeared in Science & Society, vol. 59, no. 4, 1995-96, pp. 470-497. The writer raises five points in relation to Tittenbrun's article. These include Tittenbrun's failure to grasp the point of the writer's article; how Tittenbrun plainly contradicts his own idea of real socialism; his incorrect assertion that the writer's explanation of the demise of real socialism is self-contradictory; how Tittenbrun's efforts to think in class categories implies class characterization, not class caricature; and the methodological differences between Tittenbrun and the writer and the motives around which these can be organized.
