Sumario:Part of a special issue on systemic research on competence and competence development in small and medium enterprises. The writer considers the learning of new competence as the forgotten revenue of product development. He indicates that specialists develop core competencies through learning from experience by solving problems jointly at the technological front line. He also points out that a managerial task exists to foster a culture that is supportive of a learning process by giving suitable information to all levels of the company.
