Sumario:	The article addresses the use of secondary prevention programs, also called Tier II intervention, in the response to intervention (RTI) model of addressing the causes of students who struggle with learning. The author suggests the use of levels of intervention followed by evaluation and diagnosis of special education needs. An academic intervention initiative used in the New York City Public Schools is explored. The author discusses capacity building, financing secondary prevention programs, and communicating with parents.
