| Sumario: | In this article the author discusses the concept of historiographic mapping, or the process used by historians to read and analyze materials in order to develop their own meanings, and examines its function as part of the pedagogy used in higher education history methodology courses. She explores the role played by mental maps in the work of historians, and argues that this teaching method emphasizes the reading, thinking, and analytical skills that are necessary to develop students majoring in history into historians. Other topics addressed include discipline-specific reading, curricula for undergraduate history majors, and approaches to reading historiography.
