| Sumario: | In this article Terry Copp looks back on a fifty-year career as a historian and teacher. He uncovers his roots as a young scholar and professor in Montreal during the height of the Quiet Revolution, recounts the joys and challenges of teaching at both the high school and university levels, and explains how his approach to history has allowed him to traverse disciplinary boundaries over the course of his career. In doing so, Copp also elaborates on what compelled him to move from labour history to military history. As he explains, academic opportunities, the peer review process, and his own approach to history all affected this career transition. His approach to teaching and writing history, however, remained the same. Dans cet article, Terry Copp se reme´more ses cinquante ans de carrie`re a` titre d’historien et d’enseignant. Il retrace ses racines en tant que jeune chercheur et professeur a` Montre´al au plus fort de la Re´volution tranquille, raconte les joies et les de´fis de l’enseignement aux niveaux secondaire et universitaire, et explique comment son approche de l’histoire lui a permis de traverser les frontie`res disciplinaires au fil de sa carrie`re. Ce faisant, Copp s’e´tend aussi sur ce qui l’a contraint a` passer de l’histoire des travailleurs a` l’histoire militaire. Comme il l’explique, des occasions sur le plan professionnel, le processus d’e´valuation par les pairs et sa propre approche a` l’histoire ont tous eu un impact sur ce changement de carrie`re.
