| Summary: | This article has been developed for healthcare assistants (HCAs), for whom working with people with learning disabilities may pose significant barriers to high-quality healthcare provision, due to a straightforward lack of awareness of current policies and initiatives in health. It raises the fundamental issues to be addressed within the context of healthcare provision. These are of direct relevance to the improvement of services for people with learning disabilities, aiming for the empowerment and facilitation of care for these people. Emphasis is placed upon the need for equity in healthcare for all and the need to avoid the tendency of society to homogenise all individual people with learning disabilities into one group. |
