| Sumario: | This updated meta-analysis of twenty-one interventions (published 1993-2006), involving 1,060 clients, revealed group-treatment forgiveness intervention with highly educated, Caucasian, adult females experiencing severe offenses and lasting six or more hours in duration had an overall effect size of 0.625 (.95% confidence interval = 0.37 to 0.88). Interventions less than six hours and models encouraging conciliatory behavior toward the offender were less effective. A psychotherapeutic model resulted in greater forgiveness improvement compared to psychoeducational models. Interventions composed entirely of women participants demonstrated the greatest forgiveness improvement. Group therapy forgiveness interventions for individuals unable to forgive their transgressors seem to be empirically supported. |
