All these ideological aspects of the "Nueva Canción" brought about the debates on the names, nicknames and epithets that characterized this musical movement. Our paper was developed based on an analysis of the various names and definitions that these songs were given as promoters of this social message. El movimiento de la Nueva Canción Latinoamericana, emergió y se fue consolidando durante los sesenta y setenta del siglo XX; fue una manifestación cultural confi gurada sobre la base de una ideología caracterizada por el espíritu revolucionario, el rescate del acervo musical latinoamericano, la lucha antiimperialista y el anticolonialismo. Todos esos aspectos ideológicos de la Nueva Canción, permitieron el debate acerca de las denominaciones, motes y califi cativos con los que fue identifi cado este movimiento musical.
