| Sumario: | We make available to students and scholars the Spanish translation of the article “The mission as a frontier institution in the Spanish-American colonies”, published in 1917 by the historian Herbert Eugene Bolton. The importance of the text lies in its foundational nature, since it was the first work that positioned the missionary system as a characteristic element of the Spanish expansion, which marks an important difference with the English and American expansions (the Anglo-American expansion), who in general terms were never interested in evangelizing indigenous societies. |
