Ponemos a disposición de estudiantes e investigadores la traducción del artículo “La misión como institución fronteriza en las colonias hispanoamericanas”, publicado en 1917 por el historiador Herbert Eugene Bolton. La importancia del texto reside en su carácter fundacional, ya que fue el primer trabajo que posicionó al sistema misional como un elemento característico de la dinámica expansiva española, lo que marca una importante diferencia con las expansiones inglesa y estadounidense (la expansión angloamericana), que en líneas generales nunca se interesaron por evangelizar a las sociedades indígenas.
