ab: The purpose of this study is to define an underlying mechanism that provides a link between locus of control as an individual-level concept and employee silence as organizational behavior. To test this link, an online survey was conducted with 201 participants who work as Information Technology employees of public bank in Istanbul/Turkey. The data of the research were gathered by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program. According to the findings of the study, the external locus of control had significant positive impacts on acquiescent silence (ß = .55, p = .000, F= 89.154) and defensive silence (ß = .49, p = .000, F= 62.948). Thus, the first and second proposed hypotheses for this study were supported. Further, the internal locus of control had significant positive impacts on prosocial silence (ß = .17, p = .000, F= 6.040). This finding also supported the proposed third hypothesis. Thereby, internal and external locus of control is suggested to be among predictors of employee silence behavior at workplace. In conclusion, this study has value as it shows what extent individual states impact on organizational silence.
