| Sumario: | Combined baccalaureate-Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs were developed to address the need for more--and more diverse--physicians. The authors searched three databases for articles on the subject published in the last 23 years. A total of 4,045 citations were screened, and 21 full-text articles included. Most articles (11/21, 52.4%) were published between 2000-- 2009, and 4/21 (19%) originated from the same program. Key themes included comparison to traditional programs; how they address societal needs; and their enhanced curricula. These programs offer solutions to current healthcare challenges, including workforce burnout and the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical schools. More research on program support structures, outcomes, and curricular innovation will aid medical educators in developing and improving these programs.
