The authors searched three databases for articles on the subject published in the last 23 years. A total of 4,045 citations were screened, and 21 full-text articles included. Most articles (11/21, 52.4%) were published between 2000-- 2009, and 4/21 (19%) originated from the same program. Key themes included comparison to traditional programs; how they address societal needs; and their enhanced curricula. These programs offer solutions to current healthcare challenges, including workforce burnout and the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical schools.
