| Summary: | The article discusses the feasibility of science education for the mentally retarded. It seems necessary to relate and compare acceptable curricular objectives in science for elementary children in relation to acceptable objectives for teaching the educable mentally retarded. Concept development has been explored by researchers working with both mentally retarded and normal children which are specifically related to concept development in science. Learning characteristics of the retardates and the characteristics of a good science program were explored and considered. Consideration of these characteristics is necessary in the selection and planning of a science education program for the educable mentally retarded. |
