Sumario:The article presents a study that investigates the effects of participation in selected activities from experimental materials of the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study-Elementary School Sciences Programs (BSCS-ESSP) on the enhancement of skills in listening of first-grade children. Data from four independent variables, which are gender, age, previous school experience, and socioeconomic level, were included in the study. Conducted in the Austin Independent School District, Austin, Texas, results showed that participation in selected activities from the BSCS-ESSP enhance listening skills for at least some first-grade students.
