| Sumario: | This article focuses on the transition from traditional classrooms to open classrooms in a school in New York City. Extensive preparation by teachers and students is required before the orderly transition from the traditional to the open classroom can take place. The class is divided into two groups. One small group led by the teacher starts working on a particular learning problem. The other students participate in a different activity in another part of the room. They are encouraged to work independently. The teacher introduces a new furniture arrangement in order to encourage discussion. Students are responsible for starting activities in open classrooms. |
