Sumario:So-called buddy bots are emerging as the most promising and least intrusive way for marketers to tap into the popular world of instant messaging (IM). These quirky robot savants, which are automated by software and an underlying database, have been used to boost awareness of various brands or products, promoting albums and movies, acting as customer service reps, and offering sponsored services, such as interactive databases. However, Facetime CEO Glen Vondrick warns that IM carriers that start interrupting IM conversations with too many marketing messages could see their users migrate to another Internet company.
