Sumario:Children aged 4, 5, and 6 years were pre-exposed for 1 minute to either 2-or 3-dimensional irregular pentagons. Half the Ss manipulated the stimuli during, pre-exposure, half did not. Then a discrimination learning task was instituted in which half of each subgroup discriminated among 3-dimensional and half among 2-dimensional stimuli. Results indicating interaction of pre-exposure manipulation condition, pre-exposure stimulus dimensionality, and age suggested a developmental change in the role of "appropriate operations" with different dimensions of stimuli. Results indicating easier discriminability among 2-dimensional criterion task stimuli than among 3-dimensuibak stimuli were discussed in terms of information theory.
