Then a discrimination learning task was instituted in which half of each subgroup discriminated among 3-dimensional and half among 2-dimensional stimuli. Results indicating interaction of pre-exposure manipulation condition, pre-exposure stimulus dimensionality, and age suggested a developmental change in the role of "appropriate operations" with different dimensions of stimuli. Results indicating easier discriminability among 2-dimensional criterion task stimuli than among 3-dimensuibak stimuli were discussed in terms of information theory.
